Modification of Experiment

Due to there being a heavy amount of rain on Monday the 24^th of March, the seeds were flooded and the seeds were drowned by the large amount of water in the cup. Furthermore, the tray in which the cups were placed in was knocked over due to my cats running over it and so the cups were tipped over and the seeds fell onto the ground. In conclusion I decided to change my experiment so my results would be reliable, I could have replanted the seeds but there just wasn’t enough time for the seeds to fully grow, so I decided to change the experiment from the growth of seeds to the growth of plants. I’ve planted 9 Snapdragon Camelot plants, so I could speed up the process, everything is the same except the fact that I have had to change from seeds to plants

Indentifying the Variables

My Independent Variable is: What the plant grows in (soil, cotton and gravel)
My Dependent Variable is: The height of the plant
My Controlled Variables are: The amount of water, the amount of sunlight and the size of the seeds

Aim & Hypothesis

Aim: To investigate whether soil has an effect on a plants growth
Hypothesis: Do plants need soil to grow? or Plants need soil to grow

Today is my offical day working on the assignment. For the past couple of days I have been thinking about ways that I can approach the experiment which is 'do plants need soil to grow'. I have started the experiment by purchasing the seeds that I need for the task, I am attempting to grow red spring onions, as they can grow around this time of year. I will be planting the seeds into 6 plastic cups, 2 cups will have soil, 2 cups will have gravel and the other 2 cups will have cotton wool. These will be my independent variables. My controlled variables will be the amount of water,  the amount of sunlight and the size of seed

Hypothesis

Trying to do some research for the assignment, starting to write up my hypothesis so I can start this major assignment

Today I started thinking about what I would do for my project, I had a look at the list of suggested experiments and there was one that I was really interested in and that was Do plants need soil to grow? and straight away I started having these ideas rush through my mind about the different ways that I could apporach the experiment
